James Patrick

Partner

James undertakes all aspects of private family law, including financial claims on divorce, cohabitation disputes, nuptial agreements and disputes involving children. James trained and qualified at West End practice Lee & Thompson before moving to leading law firm Harbottle & Lewis.  He subsequently joined Jones Nickolds in 2019 and quickly built up a busy practice advising on all aspects of private family law work.  He was promoted to partner in 2023.   

James is frequently instructed on the preparation of pre and post nuptial agreements, having acted for a broad spectrum of clients with assets ranging up to billions.  He is a founding member of the Family Law Agreements Group (FLAG), working constructively with partners at other London practices on the drafting and negotiation of nuptial, separation and cohabitation agreements.  Legal 500 (2025) note James “is a key name for nuptial agreements.”

James is committed to dealing with matters in a pragmatic way.  He endeavours to resolve cases at an early stage if possible, but he has extensive litigation experience when court proceedings are required.
