Jones Nickolds listed in The Times “Best Law Firms 2020”

We are delighted that for the second year running we have been listed in The Times Best Law Firms.

Only 200 of the 10,000 law firms in England and Wales made the list and only 42 of those firms are recognised for their Family Law work. We are also proud to be one of just two Kent law firms listed for Family Law.

The Times commentary on the firm:

This specialist family law firm was founded in 2010 and has established itself as a prominent adviser to London’s wealthy individuals as well as the less well-off. Basing its offices in the outer London suburbs of Beckenham and Chislehurst keeps costs down, while it also has access to meeting rooms in the capital’s centre for those not inclined to travel.

Claire Nickolds, a founding partner, has expertise in complex financial disputes and is a Resolution-trained mediator, as is the partner Rachel Woodd. Both describe themselves as “collaborative lawyers” who encourage divorcing couples to reach agreement through mediation, arbitration and negotiation rather than litigation, though the firm is happy to litigate if necessary.

In one prominent case the firm advised a father in an application for the return of his child. The one-year-old boy had been taken from the family home in Kent by his mother to live in the northeast of England without the father’s consent. The case reached the Court of Appeal in 2015, where Lady Justice Black dismissed the father’s claim and confirmed that there is no distinction between internal relocation in the UK and international cases in which the parents take the child to live abroad. She said that the only principle to be applied in either situation is that the child’s welfare is paramount. The firm believes that the matter will have a significant impact on future cases.

Commended for family
